This Week Under The Book Shepherd’s Roof:
I’m up to my eyeballs with decorating—inside and out. The tree is up; the mantel fine-tuned; the dining room table all sorted out, and the front porch is done. Next up is the library and offices … and then, the outside can be checked off… next, it’s the wrapping and a few items to be mailed out … and then, just enjoying friends and food over the coming month. And getting ready for the Publishing At Sea adventure in January.

First up is the annual Author Holiday party. I’ll miss many of you who are out of town this coming weekend—I’m noodling changing from evening gathering to a potluck Sunday afternoon next year. What say you? Would love your feedback as those who know me well—I plan the infrastructure of my year before January is over.
So jazzed—audiobook expert Richard Rieman was with me in the studios earlier this month—and oh boy—the audiobook version of my latest, How to Create a $1,000,000 Speech is ready for your listening and learning pleasure. AND—in #2 below—use this link to get your free version. My gift to you.

And a heads up hold the FIRST Saturday of the month—programs are planned for authors who desire to be seriously successful. Mara Purl and I will do the first one on January 5th—How to create a stellar book and author events, celebrations, and "oh so noticed"!

AND … How’s your week going? I love to hear what all of you are up to.

10 Reasons Why Books Are the Best Gifts!
Books are one of my personal favorite gifts to give. I love the covers and if a ribbon completes the gift, I find one that picks up one of the accent colors—adding a little sparkle and pop for pennies. Often, I find a book alike so much, that I get several copies, planning on sharing with friends and family members.

Easy wrapping is one of my 10 reasons; below are nine more. I bet you can add to my list.

1.    Books do not break the giver’s bank account.

2.    There is an ideal book for every age and need.

3.    Wrapping a book is easy peasy—just add a ribbon!

4.    Books are available from countless sources and easy to get.

5.    Books can be delivered via a gift card from a favorite bookstore.

6.    Shipping a book is a piece of cake—use media mail.

7.    Books are the gift that keeps on giving.

8.    Books are ideal travel companions—think print, audio or ebook.

9.    Books are the ideal way to escape to a land of wisdom and wonder.

10. Books keep the brain cells happy—learning, laughing & living are good things!

One of my personal favorite books is Judith Briles’ newest, How to Create a $1,000,000 Speech, Within it, you will discover the guide that speakers and wannabe speakers need. Meet the Author YOU Community … let’s hear about you!
Each week, let’s meet members of Author YOU… here’s what I want you to do. Send me info on you (approximately 70 words—who you are, expert in …, a tidbit about what you do, connection to your website, a photo of you). Send it to me at Judith@briles.com AND put in subject line member: info for ezine.
That’s it.

Susan RoAne was a teacher in the San Francisco schools when massive layoffs of 1200 teachers occurred.

Susan was one of those teachers. To help her colleagues, she designed a Career Change Workshop for Teachers. From a radio interview about it, she was invited to create a Careers Column for the San Francisco Examiner.

She spoke about her "Lay off Lemons" which started her speaking career and turned her columns (thanks to the encouragement of Judith Briles) into her 1st book How To Work a Room … which turns 30 this month and has told via bookstores in excess of one million copies!

More Great Tools

Meet one of my favorite "GO TO" websites: The Power of Social Media Examiner
Social Media Examiner is an author’s goldmine. It publishes online magazines, blogs, and podcasts about how business people can use social networks, on two

websites:
SocialMediaExaminer.com and MyKidsAdventures.com. If I ever have a question of "how" something needs to be done or works, here’s where I head. Not YouTube.

The online magazine publishes original research, has a weekly podcast show and oversees multiple communities for social media marketers. MyKidsAdventures.com publishes information on creative activities and is aimed at parents and grandparents.
Use it.

NEW WEBINAR REPLAY TIME!
November 14 -- this is the webinar you do not want to miss—no slides, just a deep dive through Karen Liz Albert’s desktop into the platforms of Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. I guarantee you will learn things that you didn’t know exist!
Get READY for the 30 Day Social Media Facelift for Authors … a Facelift you wished you had had long ago
Rarely can I say … a webinar is an Author Strategy Game Changer. Last month, I showed you one on how to goose your PowerPoint slides to stellar display.
The Author 30-Day Social Media Facelift now joins the ranks of must watch and do.

What made it different? In a total of 70 minutes,

1.   We only deep dove into three platforms: Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram;

2.   Secret Sauce was delivered for each that will put what you are currently doing to position and grow your following to dust;

3.   There were NO SLIDES – it was ALL LIVE – and via Karen Liz Albert’s laptop to her sites showing you what to do; what to click on; what to change …

4.   Oh, you can "listen" to 95% of webinars … this was one that you were glued to what was unfolding on your screen.

Yup, a true Game Changer. For influencing. For Marketing. For Author Success.

Here’s the replay: https://vimeo.com/300915079
Here is Karen’s offer:  www.30DaySocialMediaFacelift.com

Savvy authors shouldn’t miss this one:
I speak on stages lots; I do online presentations …, and I use PowerPoint slides … always. My slides are good … NOW, they are going to be GREAT! And I’m now in the process of changing them all. Why? Because of the webinar presented on Wednesday … and I would suggest you join me.

First, here’s the replay that runs a total of 80 minutes including questions:

Next … Get ready for ALL TREATS … and NO TRICKS with Graphics Secrets to Create Eye-Popping PowerPoint Slides in LESS than One-Minute!

· If you are a speaker or speaker-to-be … you need to watch and learn.
· If you are educating your audience and plan on using visuals … you need to watch and learn.
·  If you are doing any type of interaction that uses slides and PowerPoint, you need to watch and learn.

There is a reason why my presenter, Dr. Jaclyn Kostner is paid the big bucks for all her online and remote presentations (I’m talking 4 and 5 figures for her presentations): she knows how to keep her participants and audiences visually engaged from the get-go. Now, so will you.

6
Questions of the Week:

Question: How to identify your keywords for me .. for my book?

Answer: First, the internet is your friend here. Four sources: Discover KeywordsEverywhere.com (you need to use Chrome here—it’s a Google resource); discover Hashtagify.me and put in one of your chosen keywords, then see what else pops up; discover KeywordSpy.com and learn if there is interest (as in how many searches each month are used for your word)—it also offers alternatives; and four—go to your comparable/competitive author-book websites and see if you can ID keywords in the first paragraph in their "About" page.

Book Shepherd "Fun" or an "Uh-Oh" of the Week
Love it when I find a fun shorty—a quick smile, a laugh out loud, a sip of tea … and back to work—perfect. I love books---and who doesn’t love Gramma reading to a little one? The Wonky Donkey is a kick.

http://bit.ly/2E2AO8p

Join me on MONDAYS at Noon Mountain Time for Facebook Live with Live at Noon with Judith Briles – The Book Shepherd. For me, it’s a shorty—always less than 30 minutes. Grab an early lunch (or a late one) and get the latest in publishing tips, author strategies, and book marketing goosing ideas. Most times, it will be just me. Sometimes, I will have a guest—someone within my team of publishing pros that I work with and refer my clients to.

Here's how to join in: you will find it on the Judith Briles - Publishing with The Book Shepherd group or on my Time Line—I never know where it will land. If it’s within the Publishing with The Book Shepherd group ... it's a "closed group" meaning that you have to join it to participate.

JOIN here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/BookPublishingHelp/.
I’ll post an announcement on various Facebook pages in the early AM and then again 30 minutes before we start.

You can pick my brain … minimum time is 30 minutes. If you need one-on-one-time with me, I’m always open for a few minutes to give you some quick input. But, and it’s a BIG BUT, many call and expect far more than a few minutes.

This is called a "consult" and I would be delighted to schedule time with you for "just you and your many questions" that need answers. You can book time with me it at: https://thebookshepherd.com/pick-judiths-brain

Author Friendly Friday this week …

Join Author Friendly Fridays: a fun, sharing and a dynamic closed group. You can join in the next week. It’s a full hour when you can ask questions—any question. And, I always include a few strategies to get your authoring life ahead of the competition.

It’s for paid subscribers ONLY and we do it on Skype.

This is how each call starts: I share a few strategies, tips and tools that attendees can immediately start to use. All share … and ask plenty of questions. They get answers. Definitely an excellent way to start a Friday. Those of you who aren’t participating, you are making a mistake. I love the variety of books and authors who have chosen to participate. What’s also fun, is the energy that can be felt with what everyone is working on. Love it!
